CD-ROM CONTENTS
The Pegasus Disc contains software, tutorials that use QuickTime, self-tests that use Macromedia Shockwave, and common university forms that use Adobe Acrobat Reader. To view the information on this CD-ROM, you will need a Web browser. If you do not have one installed on your computer, instructions for the installation of Netscape Communicator and other software necessary to view the information on this CD-ROM are included in the Readme First file.
Please print this file and use it as a reference. If you already have a browser installed on your computer, you may still need additional software such as Apple QuickTime, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Shockwave .
USING THIS CD-ROM
If the installer did not automatically launch when the CD was inserted in your computer, double click on the file named "Start Here."
If you already have a browser installed on your computer, you may still require some of the software contained in the "macsoftware" folder.

This is the main installer; a place where you can start to access the rest of the disc.
All of the rest of these files are accessible from within "Start Here."

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
The Pegasus Disc was designed to be viewed with Netscape 4.7 or higher software, which is included on this disc. If you have problems viewing this CD-ROM with a browser other than Netscape, consider installing Netscape using the installer described below. Speakers or headphones will be required to listen to tutorial software demonstrations.
NAVIGATION
This CD-ROM includes icons that are used to navigate through the information and tutorials. Your browser's navigation buttons are also an option. On the home page (with the four computer monitors) choose the yellow "?" symbol (question mark icon) to view a legend page that describes the meaning of all icons used in this CD-ROM.
Many sections contain underlined hyperlinks to useful information on the World Wide Web. You must be connected to the UCF network or an Internet Service Provider in order for these links to work.

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING!! Please read this section completely before proceeding further. You need to read and print the following information to assist you with proper installation of the software on this CD-ROM.
NETSCAPE MUST BE INSTALLED FIRST!
If any of the installers asks you to restart your computer DO NOT DO SO!! You will restart your Macintosh after ALL of the software has been installed.
Save any work you have open, and quit all applications BEFORE you proceed. Again, you need to restart your system at the end of the installation process.
Follow the prompts on the screen:
The Shockwave installer will ask you where you would like to install its files. The default location should work without a problem. If you installed multiple internet browsers on your computer or the location is incorrect, you can click the "Browse Button" and manually set where the plugin will be installed.
Remember, answer YES to the license agreements of each installer, but do NOT view README files or restart your computer when prompted to do so. You WILL need to restart your computer following installation of QuickTime.
TROUBLESHOOTING AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: When I try to dial into UCF, it says my modem is not configured.
A: This error means either there is no modem installed, the correct modem hasn't been selected, or there is a problem with the modem. Under FreePPP menu (the telephone in the upper right hand corner of the screen), choose "Open FreePPP Setup...." Make sure the correct modem is chosen (should be the default modem) and that it is configured correctly. FreePPP detects nearly all settings so there is very little you need to configure.
Q: My modem dials UCF but doesn't seem to connect.
A: You may have entered your username or password incorrectly.
Username: Your initials plus the last five digits of your social security number (eg: jps56789).
Password: Eight digits comprised of the first four digits of your social security number and your birth month and day (eg: 1234MMDD). You will be required to change your password periodically.
Q: I connect to the UCF campus network but nothing happens.
A: Once a connection is established, you need to open Netscape or whatever browser application you plan to use. Your computer will not automatically open a browser program to use the connection.
Q: I need Open Transport, but it's not installed on my computer.
A: Before the UCF Dial-up installer can run, you must have Open Transport installed on your computer. Most computers and operating systems have Open Transport pre-installed. If it is not installed on your computer, you must insert your System Disk, install Open Transport, and rerun the Pegasus Dialup (FreePPP) Installer.
Q: I need to dial a special number to get to an outside line. How do I tell my computer/modem to dial an outside line to connect to the internet?
A: After you run the UCF-Setup program and have restarted your computer, do the following:
In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, click on the telephone icon and choose the "Open FreePPP Setup..." option. You will now see a new window with four tabs ("General", "Accounts", "Locations", and "Modems") Click on the "Locations" tab and then double-click the location that you are in. From here you can customize any options such as outside line and long distance dialing.
Q: The CD wants me to install Netscape and I already have it. Am I going to lose my bookmarks and settings?
A: No, Netscape is smart enough to look for older versions and transfer all of your bookmarks and internet settings so you can use them in the newer version.
Q: The Installer says it will install Quicktime 4, yet I open it up and Quicktime is not one of the packages listed.
A: This means that you already have the correct version of Quicktime installed and the installer won't install it. If you would like to reinstall Quicktime 4, choose "Custom Install" from the popup menu near the top of the Software Installer window.
Q: Ahhhhhh! I lost all my old FreePPP and Open Transport settings! Get them back!
A: You did not lose the settings, they were simply moved from your System Folder into the FreePPP folder on your Hard Drive. You can manually move them from your FreePPP Folder back into your System Folder:Preferences -OR- all you have to do is rerun the UCF Dial-up installer and choose "Uninstall" from the pop-up menu and this will restore your original settings. The latter option will also uninstall FreePPP.
Q: When I try to launch the self test or another quiz, I get the message that I need to update my Director plug-in.
A: Open up the CD-Rom and double-click "Start Here". This will bring up the main installer window. Click on the "Install" button, which will open the Software Installer. From here, choose "Custom Install" from the pop-up menu in the upper left-hand corner of the window and you will see an option to install ShockWave Xtras. Check this option and click "Install." You will now be able to take the self-test and other quizzes.
